Artists restore trainers at the Kenenti workshop in the Tunis neighbourhood of La Goulette. Passionate about design, 27-year-old Cherif Zaroui opened the first trainer restoration business in North Africa two years ago to offer customisation, repair and cleaning of shoes and handbags. Zaroui and his artists use fabrics, laces and leather recovered from factories to bring a second life to old items. “There were 3 or 4 million shoes thrown away every year [in Tunisia]. So we thought of giving added value to these shoes”, says Zaroui.
