“It’s important we talk about this humanitarian pause” says British Foreign Minister David Cameron as he meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, describing the pause as “an opportunity to get hostages out and to get aid into Gaza”. Cameron’s comments come ahead of a four-day truce agreed by Israel and Hamas, during which 50 hostages will be freed in exchange for 150 Palestinian prisoners. Some 240 people were kidnapped by Hamas during its deadly October 7 attack on Israel, which killed 1,200 people. Israel’s response — a sustained air and ground campaign — has killed more than 14,800 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry.
