Right now, Berlin, Capital of Germany is being flooded by deadly floods. European officials are saying this is due to climate change occurring there. These floods have left many injured, and about 120 people dead.
These floods and natural disasters have been predicted by scientists for decades now. One of Berlin’s neighboring countries, Belgium, has also taken a great hit. The floods that happened in Belgium killed about 20 people, but these death rates are rapidly increasing.
Von Der Leyen, two days after unveling a package of climate change proposals for the EU, said, “Science tells us that with climate change, we see more and more extreme weather phenomenons that last longer”.
Laschet, Party leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, said, “The floods have literally pulled the rug from under people’s feet. “We will be faced with such events over and over, and that means we need to speed up climate protection measures, on European, federal and global levels, because climate change isn’t confined to one state”.
What’s going to happen next?
